When Michael McDonald was a teenager he played as a member of one of the countless pick-up bands that famously backed the late Chuck Berry on the road.
“I remember seeing him show up that night — it was like something out of a rock and roll movie,” said the veteran singer and keyboardist, recalling a gig with Berry in the mid-1960s at the basement Castaway club in McDonald’s hometown of Ferguson, Mo. “He comes down the stairs with a guitar in his hand — no case, no cord — and stands there while the club owner peels off hundred-dollar bills. We’ve put together a list of his best songs, confining our choices to the ones he either wrote or co-wrote with the Doobies or on his own (which means we left off ‘On My Own‘). A number of other performers were on hand during the set including Gallant, GRiZ, Vulfpeck, Eric Krasno, Antwaun Stanley, members of Snarky Puppy and more. Watch the performance below!

The album's title is "Light On My Path". The songs are long time favorites of her's and Producer Fred Mollen. Composed by such greats as Jimmy Webb, Louise Goffin, Cyndi Lauper, Marc Jordan, Jack Routh and Randy Sharp, Danny O'Keefe, and many more.
It's a beautiful record filled with lovely soulful vocal performances by Amy and some brilliant musicianship.
Fred Mollen weighs in once again as one the great producers of real live music.
From the moment he stepped up to the mic as a backing vocalist for Steely Dan, Michael McDonald commanded listeners’ attention — and he’s continued to earn it over the ensuing decades, first as a member of the Doobie Brothers and then as a solo artist and periodic guest on other people’s records.
Today marks the release of Amy Hollands latest recording. A collection of songs she's been meaning to record for 26 years or more. If you do the math it might point to her pregnancies getting in the way each time she started this project in the past. That happened twice.
